Lydia Cole releases new album 'The Lay Of The Land'
Lydia Cole releases her highly-anticipated second full-length album today, the outstanding nine-track The Lay Of The Land.
On digital release, and a limited run on CD and vinyl available from Bandcamp, the album was recorded and produced by Nic Manders (VNZMA finalist ‘producer of the year’ in 2012 for Cole’s debut record ME & MOON) at his home studio in Auckland.
With a reputation for writing bare-boned, heart-on-your sleeve songs, The Lay Of The Land follows Cole’s aforementioned, critically acclaimed debut Me & Moon and showcases an artist with the maturity only battle scars can provide. It sees Cole exploring the full sonic spectrum, from hushed organic vulnerability to washes of digital swells.
The Lay Of The Land contains the recently-released single Telepathise, which was accompanied by a stunning stop-motion video made by New Zealand-born animator/illustrator and musician Timothy Armstrong. Also included are ‘Dream’, which earned Cole a Top 5 finalist spot in last year’s Silver Scroll Awards and‘Sober’, which clocked an impressive 100,000 spins on Spotify in just one month of release.
To celebrate the release of The Lay Of The Land, Cole and her band are touring New Zealand. The tour takes place ahead of her move to Berlin, Germany and tickets are in hot demand, with both Auckland shows already sold out.
