Matthew Young shares new single 'Collect'
Following on from highly acclaimed single “Collect” which flooded airwaves earlier this year, Auckland talent Matthew Young unveils his latest offering in “Hey” - another deeply infectious tune from one of this year’s brightest acts.
Opening with stripped back guitar chords, “Hey” quickly evolves into a craftily layered delight with a serious hook. “Hey” emulates Young’s fast-becoming trademark sound of falsetto vocals and R&B laden melodies, to create a track rich in character, colour and texture. A call for good times, “Hey” is a tantalising, summer-ready track showcasing Young’s impeccable vocal, production and songwriting abilities.
“Hey” is Matthew Young's second offering of 2017, following on from the seductive and futuristic single “Collect”, which premiered on triple J’s Good Nights and Oyster. “Collect” saw Young take the production reigns and Josh Fountain (Leisure, MAALA) lay on the finishing touches to create his first release after a year hiatus. Arguably one of the year’s most instant tracks, “Collect” was quickly added to full rotation on triple j, becoming one of the station's most played releases and received wide online support for its clever neon-lit video.
Emerging on Soundcloud with his debut single “Lean Close”, Matthew Young was shrouded in mystique with no biography or visuals - a complete enigma. Despite his ambiguous nature, Young's next output, debut EP Dive quickly found a pedestal on international music titles including Hilly Dilly, Urban Outfitters and Sniffers, while tastemakers i-D and Project U also paid attention. After taking some time out - in what Young describes as a blurry and difficult 2016 - the vivid songwriter has resurfaced his stylish aesthetic, laying focus on his ever-growing repertoire of effortlessly thriving and enduring deliveries.
Matthew Young is without a doubt, one of this year’s biggest break-out acts, continuing to deliver authentic and boundary pushing music with "Hey". If he wasn't already, Young will be high on your radar after this fresh slice descends on your speakers.
