Looking For Alaska share catchy new single 'Calling Out'
/ Ben DoyHamilton based pop-folk trio Looking For Alaska have announced the release of their catchy new single 'Calling Out' on the cusp of a nationwide tour.
The band worked on the track with producer Regan McKinnon, who helped shape it from a slow piano ballad into a driving, polished pop-folk tour de force.
'Calling Out' opens with a catchy riff leading into singer Amy Maynard's haunting voice over simple guitar. An addictive chorus kicks in before the song builds to a wailing crescendo, with Maynard's vocal prowess firmly at the forefront.
"Up to this point, we've normally written fairly straightforward love songs” says singer/guitarist Aaron Gott. "This song is about two people who are in love, but they're struggling. There are things they love and hate in each other, but the chorus is about letting go of all that, and recognising they're still there for each other."
Looking For Alaska are supporting the release of 'Calling Out' with a nationwide tour, which kicked off Thursday 5th April at Nivara Lounge in Hamilton. Tickets are available now from www.lookingforalaska.co.nz/gigs
