Black Sabbath have been named the 'Most Important British Heavy Metal Band' of all time.  

Sabbath won the honour after 3,600 metal fans voted on a BPI poll and received nearly half of the votes.  Iron Maiden came in second place with Led Zeppelin coming in third.

A series of special limited edition Iron Maiden vinyl picture disc albums are due to be released by EMI starting in October 2012. Comprised of the first eight albums of Maiden's career, all released in the 1980's, each picture disc will be packaged in a gatefold sleeve with full colour printed inner bags and the heavyweight vinyl will be cut from the original album master tapes.

A poll conducted by British music retailer HMV to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, has seen Iron Maiden's 1982 album 'The Number Of The Beast' voted best the best British album of the last 60 years.
