The Southern Fork Americana Fest is returning for 2016. Held in the intimate surroundings of The Tuning Fork, between October 7-16, expect performances from some of the finest and most exciting artists on the Americana scene today.
Following on from critically acclaimed performances of previous years, the festival line up includes both rising and established artists. 2016 Grammy nominated, Texan singer songwriter and exceptional lyricist, Hayes Carll takes the stage on the Saturday night with special guest, The Eastern’s, Adam McGrath.
Opening the festival with his usual energetic and captivating presence is New Zealand’s own towering troubadour, Skyscraper Stan with his band The Commission Flats with local trio Ravens (aka Reb Fountain, Jess Shanks and Alice Ryan Williams). Canadian award winning honky tonk star, Lindi Ortega will finally be making her New Zealand debut after we missed out in 2014’s fest with support from Minnesotan duo The Cactus Blossoms who cut their teeth on obscure country songs. The established and well travelled Robert Ellis returns for his third time to the venue to celebrate his newly released self-titled album. Sharing the billing with Ellis is Texan folk-alt.country star Joe Pug. Relatively new to the scene, Australia's Josh Rennie-Hynes has quickly garnered praise as one of the countries finest songwriters on the Americana scene. Joining Josh on the Thursday night is fellow Australian Liam Gerner who brings his upbeat blues and country music.
And that’s not all! Closing out the festival in true party style get set for Sunday evening’s ‘The Shape I’m In’ hootenanny and bbq featuring an all star band and some of New Zealand’s hottest talents. Grab a tasty bbq plate and enjoy performances from NZ Country Award winner Ebony Lamb (of Eb & Sparrow), Lyttelton Record’s newest poster boy Tom Cunliffe, horn blasting superstars Hopetoun Brown and more special guests yet to be announced.
